Description: The design concept was to arrange the new buildings in such a way as to create a central landscaped courtyard that reflects the original 1920's masterplan. The existing gym, administration building and the 1500 seat auditorium are to be completely renovated and restored with all new mechanical and electrical systems. The new work involves 107,500 square feet of construction. In summary, the design has transformed an old architectural relic back to its original grandeur and brought its function into the 21st century. It combines the existing and new into a cohesive, well organized middle school capable of providing a full range of services for students today and well into the future, Awards Miami Chapter / AIA Award of Merit for Design (Unbuilt Category) - 1994 Florida Trust for Historic Preservation Recognition of Significant Achievement - 1997 National Trust for Historic Preservation Honor Award for Historic Preservation - 1997 AIA / Miami - Award Of Excellence For Design (Built Category) - 1998 Other Education Projects Include: Fulford Elementary |
